NRL Bulldogs Club Gives back to New Ireland Communities

A partnership between New Ireland Province and Bulldogs NRL Club has enabled communities to share skills and knowledge of the game.

Members of the club have been visiting the province for the last four years during their breaks from the NRL season.

Steve Pike, Manager for Education and Welfare told EMTV News that they are very happy to return back to the communities in New Ireland, as the province of choice in Papua New Guinea.

“All the players, who have been here have always commented, saying that they have found it to be a fulfilling experience, something very different, meeting different people with different cultures, lovely people and their smiling faces, and just seeing a different lifestyle that is not like in Australia,” he said.

Jamie Feeney, a former Bulldogs player and now New South Wales Rugby league Performance Program Manager also shared same sentiments.

“Over the last couple of days, we have gone out to schools, visiting them and their communities. During our visits we have handed down many bulldogs gear and spread the word of rugby league in a country that really does understand rugby league,”

One of the recipients is the Nehemiah Christian School in Kaplaman village.
