Dulcie Somare intends to contest East Sepik Regional in 2017
PANGU Party national strategic adviser Dulcie Somare has announced her intention to contest the East Sepik Regional seat under the Pangu banner in 2017 National Election.
Ms Somare made her intention known to the cheering crowd and loyal Pangu supporters at the 11th graduation ceremony of Grace Memorial Secondary School in Wau, Morobe Province, last Thursday.
“My father, the Grand Chief and founding father of this nation Sir Michael Thomas Somare couldn’t make it to Wau to attend the graduation and sent me on his behalf,” she told the crowd.
Dulcie Somare is the last daughter of the Somare family of five brothers and sisters. She is married and has two children. She completed her education overseas and has acquired two degrees in Law and Political Science.
“My father is now 80 years old and will not seek re-election in the 2017 National Election and I raised my hands to contest the election under Pangu Party banner to carry on the legacy of Somare in the political arena.
“He sent his apologies to the people of Wau-Bulolo and made a commitment of K30,000 to buy the materials for your school library,” she said.
Ms Somare encouraged all the students to study hard to achieve their goals in life and to contribute meaningfully towards the country’s development.
She urged all the female students to participate in national development by taking up professions which were once male dominated.
Ms Somare also acknowledged the contribution of a great woman leader the late Grace Pokana which the school was named after and said many women should look on her as a shining example of taking up leadership role.
She later witnessed the launching of three new teachers houses, the extension of the new clinic, the e-library and the new guidance and counselling services at the school.
