PNG HUNTERS SIGN FIVE-YEAR DEAL WITH THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL STADIUM
The PNG SP Hunters are delighted to announce that they have signed a five-year agreement to play all their home games at the PNG home of rugby league – the National Football Stadium. This follows the signing of an agreement today between the the Lloyd Robson Oval Trustees and the PNG Rugby Football League Inc (PNGRFL).
The PNGRFL is the governing body of rugby league in PNG and manages the PNG Hunters.
The PNG Hunters Franchise was established in 2013 and is currently competing in the Queensland Rugby League’s Intrust Super Cup. This year was the first time they played all their home games at the NFS and they had their most successful season in their history, even reaching the finals. The finals game was played in PNG for the first time, giving PNG rugby league international exposure.
Lloyd Robson Oval Trustees Chairman Peter Botten said the NFS was really proud and happy to be partnering with the PNGRFL to have the Hunters play their home games at the venue.
“The National Football Stadium is built to an international standard and we are delighted that the NFS will be the regular home of the Hunters in the future,” Botten said.
“We believe that this arrangement lays the foundation for a long term partnership between PNGRFL and the National Football Stadium, ensuring we can work together to further build the great game of rugby league in this country, from the grass roots to international level. Working together, we believe we can provide a top class product for rugby league players and fans in Papua New Guinea.
When welcoming the deal, PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka said they were happy to partner with the National Football Stadium, not only in hosting the Hunters home games but also for the greater development of the sport in PNG.
“The National Football Stadium is a world class facility – it is among the best in the region,” Tsaka said. ” The interest and enthusiasm demonstrated by supporters this year has been excellent and we are pleased with the increased attendance since holding our games at the NFS.
“We look forward to working with the Lloyd Robson Oval Trustees to bring you the Hunters home games over the next five years and further building the game at all levels in this country.
