PARTNERS IN DEVELOPMENT VITAL FOR PAPUA NEW GUINEA
PNG Mining Conference update
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said partnership between resource developers and the national government was vital if PNG is to move forward together in a constructive manner where the national government and industry worked together to achieve the country’s vision and goals.
He said when resource developers worked together as a partner with the national government on various projects success was achieved and witnessed in the country.
Mr O’Neill acknowledged Oil Search and its health initiatives through Oil Search Foundation in Hela Province, which was a testament of such a partnership.
He said on-the-ground knowledge and strong project management skills of Oil Search, coupled with the leadership provided by Government had an impact on peoples’ lives and emphasized the importance of infrastructure development, especially through increasing access to electricity for our people, is an area of great potential aimed at improving the standard of living for our people.
PM O’Neill also acknowledged ExxonMobil’s contribution through a mutual engagement between the national government, SOEs, and the resource industry delivered on clear positive outcomes for the country.
“Finally, as a Government, we would like to remind you that our door is always open. We are a Government that embraces co-operation and dialogue with our investors. We also know that this is the time of year when there is often the movement in personnel between companies.”
He thanked companies leaving PNG shores for within the resource sector in the country as it added to the socio-economic development that aimed to give the Papua New Guineans a better quality if life.
Prime Minister O’Neill was very clear on establishing facts that PNG expected uncertain times ahead from the onset, however expressed confidence about a strong foundation already set that had the capacity to weather the storm and added that through number of government interventions, shown by the country’s resilience in pulling itself through global challenges in the past and also future.
“I thank you for your ongoing confidence in our country and in our economy. Together we will make Papua New Guinea stronger, we will ensure a solid return for your investments.
Now is a great time to be a part of the success of Papua New Guinea,” he said.
