O’ Neil says he will be first declared winner

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has foreshadowed a win for himself and the first to be declared in this 2017 general election.
Mr O’Neill made the bold prediction in the Manus capital of Lorengau yesterday when campaigning for his PNC candidates in sitting governor Charlie Benjamin and former Open MP Job Pomat.
But instead of PNC supporters dominating the rally, a huge sea of ordinary people instead outnumbered them in a bid not only to see Mr O’Neill in person, but to also hear him spell out his government’s priorities.
Mr O’Neill told the Manus people his PNC party will form the next government.
“I did not win elections using guns and I will be the first to be declared in my Ialibu-Pangia seat followed by the two Manus seats,” an enthused Mr O’Neill said.
He said the Manus people must know that through this PNC-led government, a lot of major infrastructure had been built and “yupla lukim na no ken faul” he told an attentive and unusually quiet crowd.
Most felt there was nothing new in terms of commitment to the province and went away disappointed because they were not allowed to ask him questions.
Provincial police commander David Yapu said the Manus people respected the prime minister, who he escorted to the airport for his return flight at 3.30pm.
