Career Expo Vital

Career exposition is the first point of entry for students to identify their destination after completing grade 12 education.

Morobe Province deputy administrator Robin Bazzinuc said this during the fourth Morobe secondary schools career expo held at Lae’s Okari Assembly of God campus yesterday.

Mr Bazzinuc said hosting annual grade 12 students career expo is vital for students to know which tertiary institutions will select them based on their academic performances.

“This is the first step and decision made for a thousand career journeys ahead and students attending such expo can make informed decisions when selecting choices of institutions to further studies after completing year 12,’’ Mr Bazzinuc said.

“Morobe Provincial Administration through its social services sector is supporting this career expo annually to get information of courses offered by various tertiary institutions as well as the selection criteria and how to apply.”

Mr Bazzinuc said students’ commitments to their studies and discipline while in school will enable them to secure a space next year.

Morobe Province guidance officer and career expo chairperson Maryanne Kuman said grade 12 career expo initiatives started in 2013 and has seen dramatic increases in students’ participants in the event annually.

Mrs Kuman said this also helps boost students’ acceptance into various tertiary institutions when information are given to them.

“I am satisfied because the expo happens three weeks away from the filling of school leavers’ forms by the grade 12 students and also one month away from the final examinations.

“We wants students to have updated information of various tertiary institutions, selection criteria and courses offered so they can be prepared and do the right choices,” Mrs Kuman said.

More than 2,000 students attended the first day from the secondary schools of Bumayong, Busu, Lae, Markham Valley, AOG and Wawin National High School.

The institutions present on the first day were International Training Institute, University of Goroka, Divine Word University, University of PNG, Institute of Business Studies University, Madang Technical College, Unitech Lae School of Nursing, Telue Engineers Institute, and others.
